Class 12: Unit 10; activities and dangers on holiday

Class 12: Unit 10; activities and dangers on holiday

Hello everyone,

Today we started by reviewing the prepositions we studied last class. We completed the questions on page 143 activity A (lesson 1). After that, we played a game of hide and seek using the map of Africa. This gave you an opportunity to practice the phrases and prepositions we learned in the last class.

Next, we extended our vocabulary with some nouns, adjectives, and adverb & adjective phrases. We can use these to describe possible dangers when doing various activities on holiday enjoying nature.

We finished with a speaking activity using Jeju Island as our inspiration for a short getaway.

Next class, we will consider the pros and cons of National parks and also what can be done to preserve the beautiful world for future generations. I will also be posting the speaking test guidelines.

Here are the Unit 10 HW assignments:

The deadline as always is before the Final written exam.

Have a great weekend~

Class 11: Unit 10; the natural world, prepositions

Class 11: Unit 10; the natural world, prepositions

We began today by looking at a map of Costa Rica and describing the physical features and geographical features of the country. We tried to use prepositions to show location.

Then we learned some phrases from the photo story to talk about visiting attractions when on holiday.

After that, we used our knowledge of South Korea to draw the same geographical features onto a map and recycle the prepositions to make statements explaining where these things are located.

After the break, we looked at the prepositions in / on / to in more detail. I checked the answers to your sentences while you role-played the dialogue on page 113 with the map of Australia and the vocabulary / social-language / grammar from unit 10 so far.

Be careful with your use of 'the'. HERE is a summary sheet to help anyone who is interested.

We finished by thinking about what dangerous animals there are in Australia and South Korea....

Next class, we will talk more about the activities we can do on vacation and what dangers we should be aware of. Then we will use the grammar structure to incorporate that into a free talking activity.

Have a great week(end) everyone!

See you next class~

Class 10: Unit 8; inventions and discoveries

Hello everyone,

In class today we quickly went over and role-played the two conversation models on pages 87 & 90. We talked about the social language and the use of conditionals in the dialogues. We personalized and roll-played them.

After that, we reviewed conditionals with a quick powerpoint worksheet.

Then we read and listened to the article about antibiotics. We answered some simple comprehension questions to check our understanding.

Next, we chose some inventions/discoveries that have had a big impact on society from the list on page 95. We discussed what life was like before and after...Then we made some 3rd conditional sentences to summarize our discussions.

After the break, we did an interview using conditionals (real and unreal). Then we finished with a critical thinking free talking activity about inventions.

Next class, we will be starting unit 10.

Have a great weekend~

Hello everyone,

Today we talked more about inventions and learned talked about some more vocabulary for describing inventions. Then using that vocabulary we described various inventions in a prompt driven free talking activity.

Then we learned about the different conditional structures, their meaning, and usage. Here is a summary chart of the different conditionals (0,1,2,3).

After that, we talked more about inventions and discoveries. We tried to rank them in order of importance (those which have had the biggest impact on civilization).

We have now covered the majority of the material for unit 8. Next class we will look to use it in a more creative way.

Homework: remember you get three chances to do your best, but it must be completed before the final written exam (week 15).
